Switched at Birth

In the series premiere of this drama, a hospital error that involved sending two newborns home with the wrong families is uncovered years later, when the girls are teenagers. The girls went on to lead very different lives: Artistic Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano) grew up in a world of privilege, while athletic Daphne Vasquez (Katie Lecleric) was raised by a single mother and contracted an illness that left her deaf at a young age.

Kathryn questions why Regina isn't joining in the lawsuit against the hospital. Meanwhile, Daphne goes out with Liam and encounters new difficulties dating a hearing person; and Bay finds a kindred spirit in Ty, who hails from Daphne's old neighborhood.

Bay becomes curious about her birth father. Meanwhile, Kathryn deals with her nosy neighbors; and John takes an interest in Daphne's basketball games and meets Melody (Marlee Matlin), a friend of Regina's who works at Daphne's school.

Kathryn hosts a fund-raiser for Buckner Hall, and Toby's band provides the evening's entertainment. Meanwhile, Daphne is crushed to find out that she's been dating Bay's ex-boyfriend; and John and Melody's new friendship makes Kathryn uneasy.

Kathryn and John insist on having Ty over for dinner after they learn that Bay has been seeing him secretly. Elsewhere, Toby asks Daphne and Emmett to help him win a poker game, which puts Daphne in an uncomfortable position.

Daphne struggles to keep up with a cooking class at Buckner Hall. Elsewhere, Bay and Emmett grow close while looking for clues about Bay's biological father; and Toby and Wilke try to break into school to swipe a test.

In the second-season opener, a newly wealthy Angelo buys expensive presents for everyone. Meanwhile, John and Kathryn contemplate entering the political arena; Bay faces cheating accusations; and Daphne lands in hot water because of Jeff.

Bay enrolls in an experimental program at Carlton for siblings of deaf students. Elsewhere, Toby embarks on a romance with Nikki, but then he pulls back after he finds a distasteful picture of her on the Internet; and Regina learns about Angelo's baby.

Melody hosts a tolerance retreat after tension builds between the hearing and deaf students at Carlton. Elsewhere, Kathryn's remarks during a radio interview may jeopardize John's campaign; and Regina gets some alarming health news.

Bay adjusts to the changing nature of her relationship with Angelo; Daphne considers taking the next step with Travis.

Daphne feels uncomfortable around Travis; Kathryn tries to get closer to Bay by volunteering to work at Carlton.

Bay hosts an anti-Valentine's Day party, where Noah and Travis get into a fight. Meanwhile, Angelo and Lana call a temporary truce; and Regina disagrees with the Kennishes on how to deal with a situation concerning Daphne's food truck.

In the third-season opener, the girls begin their senior year at Carlton, where Toby takes on a coaching position. Meanwhile, Kathryn befriends a tap dancer; Daphne starts her probation work at a free clinic; and Bay's new art teacher inspires her.

Bay strives to impress her art teacher while she struggles with her commitment to field hockey. Elsewhere, Campbell assists Daphne when she makes an error at the clinic; Kathryn invites Renzo home for dinner; and Emmett investigates a vandalism problem.

Bay assists her art teacher at a gallery and hopes to get a letter of recommendation in return. Elsewhere, Daphne struggles to befriend Sharee; and Regina's latest business opportunity puts her in an awkward position.

Daphne searches for a patient she accidentally let leave. Meanwhile, Bay discovers that Emmett is dating again; Jorge wants Daphne to accompany him to a family gathering; and Regina and Angelo have a discussion about business.

John bonds with Nikki's mom while they help Toby move into his new apartment. Elsewhere, Kathryn goes to New York City to pitch an idea for a second book; Bay suspects that Tank has a crush on her; and Daphne worries about Sharee's home life.

Daphne plans a birthday bash for Campbell. Meanwhile, Kathryn hosts a murder-mystery party, where she and John uncover surprises about one another; and Bay wants to score an invite to Tank's fraternity luau.

With both Emmett and Daphne heading off to college, Bay finds that taking the blame for Daphne may be harder than she thought.

Daphne struggles with the speed and depth of her coursework.

Bay's current status may prevent her from qualifying for the Kansas City Artist Showcase.

Bay feels pressured to maximize her short time with Emmett when he comes for a surprise visit.

After a night of drinking with her friend Tank (guest star Max Adler, “Glee”), Bay wakes to find that she doesn’t remember all the details of the night. She tries to piece together the events of the evening, but as she speaks with different people about the situation, what really happened may not be so clear.

A private matter goes public for Bay, leading to an investigation by the university.

Daphne and Bay are so enthralled with China that they stay longer than anticipated, but after 10 months, they get an emergency call and drop everything to return home. Once there, Daphne tries to integrate herself back into campus life but finds that things have changed without her. Bay is mixed up about her feelings towards Emmett who is struggling with his own problems. Meanwhile, Kathryn and John quarrel over her job and Regina feels guilty about a secret tryst.

After a photo of Daphne and Mingo dressed up as their favorite singers at a college costume party goes viral, the pair find themselves caught up in a controversy that escalates into a discussion of race relations and free speech. Bay seeks a job at the tattoo parlor in town. Kathryn and John court a new shortstop for the UMKC baseball team, while Regina and Luca work on a class project together.

Returning from London for a visit, Toby and Lily reveal their plans to get married in the Kennish backyard. But a fight before the wedding may tear them apart before they can say “I do.” Regina must decide whether to reveal her relationship with Luca to the family. When she least expects it, Bay runs into Tank again.

Daphne and Sharee are horrified to stumble upon a racist display at the Black Student Union on campus. When the perpetrators are given minimal punishment, Iris starts a hunger strike in protest. Daphne receives an anonymous threat and Sharee grows frustrated with how the school is handling the situation. Emmett invites Bay to help him with an art project, causing friction with Travis who’s already upset that John seems ready to replace him on the baseball team.

With tensions running at an all-time high, the Black Student Union takes a stand against the university administration until their demands are heard. Told in three chapters from the varying perspectives of Sharee, Iris and Chris, the students deal with their frustrations in different ways. Iris pledges to continue her hunger strike until the students responsible for a racist display outside the Black Student Union are expelled, but her commitment has consequences on her health. Sharee faces the pain of her own past as she tries to gather signatures and rally more students to get involved. Chris is torn between wanting to dazzle several baseball scouts at an upcoming game and standing with his fellow students to show solidarity.

Daphne takes a volunteer job at a clinic for extra credit and comes face-to-face with her old mentor, Dr. Jackson. While eager to mend fences with him, she grows alarmed when it becomes obvious he’s having trouble properly treating his patients. Mingo leads the annual “Kangaroo Krawl,” but Daphne sees his foolhardy behavior as a reaction to the regretful costume party incident. Bay finds Noelle is plagiarizing her work and uses the discovery to negotiate her own chair. John and Kathryn make an effort to rekindle their romance. Regina is put in a precarious situation when she decides to expand her business.
