Jack Griffin is a Harvard philosophy scholar who loses out on his dream job and goes to work as a high school Advanced Placement biology teacher in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. He quickly makes it clear he will not be teaching any biology, however, and, realizing he has a room full of overachieving honor roll students at his disposal, decides instead to use the kids to enact revenge on his rival and take the job that is rightfully his.

When Jack leaves his class unattended, a student injury sets off an official investigation and lands Jack in "teacher jail." An aggressive teacher's union rep sets her sights on Principal Durbin. The students' excitement for a substitute teacher are dashed when they find out it's Helen.

While Principal Durbin struggles with budget cuts, Jack discovers his students pity him - so he rallies, making a splash at the school bake sale and getting kicked out of the bookstore for life.

When Jack gets into a petty dispute with the student council president, the situation escalates much too far; Stef sells makeup at school as a side business.

Jack reluctantly agrees to go out on the town with Mary, Stef, and Michelle; his superiority complex proves difficult for the women to overcome; principal Durbin feels threatened when Helen fills in for him on the school's morning announcements.

When Jack is attracted to a student's mother at a parent-teacher conference, he feigns interest in her son; a group of parents complain to principal Durbin when they notice a piece of controversial student art from Mary's class.

With no archrival to combat, Jack sets his sights on a new mission: write the most brilliant philosophy book ever and get out of Toledo for good. Stef and Mary forget a special day for Michele. Helen forgets to order routine maintenance for the copier causing mass hysteria at Whitlock.

As the newly minted driver's education teacher, Jack sets out to get revenge on his mother's church when he discovers the last of her money was used to buy a statue of the Virgin Mary.

In the hectic thirty minutes that start every day at Whitlock, Jack tries to retrieve his massage chair from Whitlock's intriguing payroll accountant, Lynette. Durbin and Helen prepare for the morning announcements. Michelle gives a eulogy.

Jack is aghast to learn he didn't make the Top 10 in Toledo's Top 100 Bachelors, and Durbin did. Victor and Eduardo decide it's time to reveal their feelings to their crushes.

Jack uses Michelle's annual murder mystery party to impress Lynette. Meanwhile, in a moment of desperation, the students break into Whitlock High to steal the A.P. Bio practice exams.

Jack's war with his neighbor reaches a turning point when it threatens to ruin a date with Lynette. When the school photographer ups his rate, Durbin takes school pictures into his own hands.

When Jack is disappointed with the popcorn maker he orders, he and the students plot revenge. Helen goes back to school to get her high school degree and chaos ensues in Principal Durbin's office in her absence.

Mr. Pugh plans a field trip for the Toledo chapter of the Ohio Naturalists. When Jack can't write his own book, he agrees to be ghostwrite for popular author Robin Shwank -- only to insert his own chapters into Shwank's book.

Jack accidentally loses a significant amount of money and it falls in the hands of the students. As Principal Durbin and Helen investigate who stole the money, the students and teachers admit to other wrongdoings.

Principal Durbin takes it upon himself to help Jack advance his book with an appearance on Toledo's morning TV show but lets his five minutes of fame get the best of him. The other teachers lead a competition within the Young Entrepreneurs Club.

Jack has Mary drive him to the doctor, but a prank results in him getting the same procedure twice. At school, Durbin and Helen embarrass themselves and the kids compete over class superlative titles.

As the school prepares for winter break, Jack tries to record a lecture on Thoreau's transcendentalism as a way into the University of Wisconsin's philosophy department. Frustrated and unable to finish the video, he falls asleep and has nightmares.

A tornado puts the school on lockdown. The kids write fan fiction about faculty members.

Jack has the students form a fake cult to sabotage Principal Durbin's new school uniforms.

Jack attempts to get closer with the guys at work. Helen helps Principal Durbin grow a backbone.

Jack tries to expose his allegedly reformed deadbeat dad. A witch shakes up the Whitlock High staff.

Jack finds out he's his girlfriend's therapy homework. Principal Durbin goes undercover.

Victor sends Ashlanda a risqué photo. Grace and Anthony try to set up Mary and Principal Durbin.
