My Hero is a BBC sitcom created by Paul Mendelson. The programme ran for six series, first broadcast in February 2000, and concluding in September 2006. The series follows the antics of the dim-witted superhero "Thermoman", portrayed by Ardal O'Hanlon in series one to five and by James Dreyfus in the final series. The series was regularly directed by John Stroud. In the UK, the digital channel Gold regularly re-runs the programme, although the last series has yet to appear on the channel. In the United States it was shown on PBS and, briefly, BBC America. In Australia, UKTV offered re-runs of the first three series, while BBC Entertainment provided repeats for Scandinavia.

But Janet's mother knows what she wants for her daughter - smooth, oily Dr. Piers, not weird George. Janet is a bag of nerves and even more so that George says and does the oddest things, sometimes at the worst moment imaginable.

Thermoman faces his biggest challenge yet. After Janet washes his superhero outfit in biological detergent which make him itch, an book from his home planet says that he mustn't have sex more than once a month. But worst of all, Piers knows George's secret.

A curvaceous Ultronian appears, claiming to be George's fiancee. Xil learns to speak English when speaking to Tyler, she realises that she can learn from him. She does so and picks up his (local) accent. Meanwhile, Mrs Raven asks for a better deal for the job she does, Piers decides to let her go instead.

Our heroic couple find out that they're pregnant in this episode. As part of the pregnancy George endows Joyce with Ultronian powers, which she the uses to go about saving the day. The sub plot is Mrs. Raven convincing Piers that he is going to be on ""This is Your Life"", and uses this to milk all sorts of 'goodies' out of smarmy Dr Piers.

It's George's 327th birthday, Arnie asks George if he told Janet about what happens to Ultronians after their 327th birthday. Janet soon finds out, George starts to age ! It seems his body is worn out & he needs a new one. George selects 3 replacements (handsome, young,masculine) but Janet doesn't want these, She wants the body she fell in love with & married. George continues to age & Janet's parents visit. She tells them he's George's Grandfather & when they leave George & Janet kiss but Janet's Mum returns & catches them kissing.! Janet tells them she's left George & taken up with his Grandfather. When George is so old he can hardly walk he decides to try the time tunnel of youth that Ultronian woman sometimes use. However he goes to far & ends up as a baby.! Janet takes him to the bathroom & he goes to find the body in the reject room & surprises Janet with an old model body of his usual self.

George & Janet are loading their groceries into their car when they hear Mrs Raven yelling at the triplets as she's loading her groceries. The trolley man loses control of his trolleys on the ramp of the car park & they head straight for Mrs Raven.! As she goes over the edge of a Multi-Storey car park It's Thermoman to the rescue.! Next day George has bad news in the form of a writ from Mrs Raven's solicitor. It seems while saving her life he squeezed her arm & sprained it causing her trauma, distress & potential loss of earnings should she ever want to take up skiing professionaly. George wants Arnie to talk to Mrs Raven & ask her to drop the charges, Meanwhile Janet's parents have had a row & Mr Dawkins has moved in with Tyler next door. Thermoman visits Mrs Raven & apologises for hurting her. He almost has the case dismissed when Mrs Raven asks for a kiss & Thermoman knocks her cold with his helmet.! Mrs Raven is now asking for more money for the extra pain & suffering. Mrs Dawkins

George has had very little time to rest.(too many rescues.) Janet urges him to rest. Olly is sick & George keeps flying home to check on him before flying away again. As George tires, he flies slower & a reporter tracks him to the flat where he takes a picture & splashes it all over the next mornings paper. With several T.V. crews camped on the footpath outside the flat George tries to tell the reporter that there is nothing going on between Janet & Thermoman. Kevin Trench (the reporter) sensationalises George's explanation infering Thermoman & George are a couple.! Janet solves the problem by discrediting the reporter,saying that he is actually an Ultronian & an arch enemy of Thermoman. Olly gets better & things go back to normal.

George has some initial trouble getting to grips with the notion of sport when he is asked to join a cricket team, to help Piers out. Mrs. Raven gets intimate with Tyler after becoming convinced that he is her hero Thermoman. Ella belittles Thermoman - when he fixes her house after an incident and other people's houses as well - as not doing a perfect job. But Thermoman gets his revenge.

George gets himself a new life insurance policy and then kills himself to claim the cash. Now he has to figure out how to come back from the dead with Janet's help, or at least, Janet has to help him sort out another mess - yet again! This is easier said than done, as Janet has to fend off colleagues and family trying to get her married off again and with things like Tyler on the loose and George spread out in a coffin in the room, things are not going to be easy to solve, until a plan is hatched for the funeral.

George is standing for mayor - his policy - to fix Stan and Ella's broken street light. His opponent is Piers. Piers sticks it to George by treating him as a joke in the hope that George can't possibly win. Janet is so incensed by George's attitude of becoming mayor, with him secretly being Thermoman; she leaves home taking Ollie with him. Piers hatches a plan to disgrace George, now that Janet is out of the way, but the broken street light has a way of interfering when Stanley comes to get some much needed sleep and Pier's setup deos not go according to plan.

When George buys a car and ups the offered price and then takes reponsibility for an accident that was obviously Piers' fault, Janet trys assertiveness training, which promptly fails. Piers is frustrated by his lack of success with women and, when Mrs. Raven tricks him into thinking that a patient is his next date, he starts up a men's group to combat women. George is highly impressed by this, and trys it out on Janet, who is having none of it until George controls her mind and she becomes the perfect wife. He quickly does it to Ella and the other women. Piers then finds a girl who doesn't slap him and changes his mind about women. George then puts everyone back to normal. Meanwhile, Casey gets a job as directory enquiries and the speaking clock to save up for a doll's house.

Janet's mother Ella becomes a trainee JP. When visiting Janet and George she comments on the fact that Ollie hasn't spoken a single word yet. He responds by talking a language that sounds like baby talk (George has been teaching Ollie the language of Jupiter). With Ella's thoughts in mind, George goes out to get some educational stuff for the kids, he ends up getting porn for them and giving Ollie a cigar and alcohol. Ella takes Ollie and Cassie away from Janet and George but without them Cassie reverts to being a normal human.

Desperate for money after the health shop is closed, George takes part in a poker game on Ultron, but ends up losing all his body parts, aside from his foot and his soul. When he is placed into a new body, Janet has problems coping with the change.

When Ollie's pet spider dies, Thermoman resurrects it, then kills it because it frightens him. Wanting to teach Cassie about Ultronian religion, George tries to organise it on Earth. He winds up resurrecting Piers from a fatal overdose of Mrs Raven's human testing pills, which leads people to believe he is "The Chosen One.

When Thermoman attempts to fly faster than the speed of light, he is caught and has to resit his superhero theory test or he will lose his license and be sent back to Ultron. Meanwhile, George's attempts to be attractive to Janet have interesting results, both at the gym and when he tries to reverse the effects.
