The Criminal Investigator II is a 1996 Hong Kong police procedural television drama. Produced by Jonathan Chik and edited by Chow Yuk-ming and Chiu Ching-yung, the drama is a TVB production and the direct sequel to 1995's The Criminal Investigator. The story follows a team of investigators from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau unit of the Royal Hong Kong Police Force.

FAI testifies against WING who smuggled cigarette. Therefore, FAI is set free. He then escapes away to Canada. The cops question WING. PING becomes the scapegoat for WING's sake. WING is bailed out with two million dollars. WING is eventually set free. He is not bound by law. PING and his family members are murdered. They suspect WING. KWAI orders CHUNG to escort F AI back to Hong Kong from Canada. CHUNG takes this chance for honeymoon with his wife, LIN. WAI welcomes CHUNG at the airport. LIN flies to New York for business. WING sends SZE and A to kill FAI. CHUNG shoots SZE. CHUNG then handcuffs FAI. CHUNG prepares to take F AI to the airport. Unexpectedly, A shoots F AI to death. CHUNG is shocked.

A site worker discovers a skull. The coroner proves that skull belonged to a middle-age woman. The police believes that WING is related. They then fax a photo with an eight years old girl to WAI for investigation. The F.B.I. complains CHUNG. CHUNG is forced to stop investigation. However, CHUNG ignores this order. He applies for annual leave and flies to Toronto. He continues to investigate. The reporter finds out that WING got married in 1978 with a woman named, NGOR. They have a daughter, PING, who is now eight years old. WING sends subordinate to assault the reporter. CHUNG meets PING and KEE. They are reluctant to reveal their identities. Meanwhile, A appears. A shoots PING to death. Soon the immigration department finds out that KEE is actually PING. PING is sent back to Hong Kong to testify at court. CHUNG stayed in Canada as his wife died in a car accident. He backs to Hong Kong after he finished her funeral rites.

They immediately send KEE to the police station to testify. The cop then sends her to the hotel. TAO and SUN accompany KEE to take some Japanese food. They meet WING. KEE claims that WING is the one who murdered her mother. WING knew that he was wrong. He leaves sadly. KEE is the witness at court. WING disappears. He takes the time to find an airplane to escape away. WAI (WING's current wife) goes to the police station and claims that her husband is being kidnapped. The kidnapper extorts one million from her. The next day WAI will flee to Taiwan with her son and lover. LUNG finds KAI in the open camp. KAI points out that KEE is not PING. KEE begs CHUNG to keep the secret so that she could testify against WING at court.

CHUNG is transferred to another unit. He orders MAN, MAK and CHI to follow BING. BING does not discover them. CHUNG wants to transfer his brother-in-law, KWONG, to his unit. He even asks KWONG to pass part of his salary to his father-in-law for family expenses. BING leads three more people to rob a jewellery shop. KWONG devises to scare BING away. CID brings KWONG back to the police station to investigate. CHUNG goes bail for KWONG. KWONG again follows BING. KWONG finds that there are posters and his photo on the wall. It is the loan-shark's good deed. KWONG tears off the posters but he lost BING's trace. Consequently, the CID gets nothing. BING escapes from the disaster.

KWAI got some information from CHUNG's unit. The CID goes to arrest CHIU. However, they are not succeeded. They only get CHIU's finger prints. FONG takes a group of Taiwan tourists to the nightclub. A rascal, KAP, stirs up trouble. FONG calls CHUNG for help. The cops arrive. KAP is very frightened. FONG thanks the cops by taking them to have Japanese food. Meanwhile, the rascals again bother FONG. CHUNG overwhelms them. The information centre reports that there is a robbery on the Jet Ferry incurred twenty million dollars. The police sends marine and air force to start a thorough search. However, there is no trace for the robbers. BING uses false name to book flight ticket in a travel agency. He plans to take the ticket at six o'clock. CHUNG asks FONG to delay him. Meanwhile, BING is shocked to find his file comes out from the fax machine.

CHUNG goes to the travel agency immediately. Unfortunately, BING was shot to death. BING is hurt. He escapes away. He crashes his head to a brick wall and dies. Four million paper notes spreads all over. The Mainland police force informs the Royal Hong Kong Police Force that the 'Three Flag Robbers' are being arrested and six million. Stolen money were found. KWAI found out that one of the robbers, TAT, has still not yet arrested. MAN asks BING's aunt to describe the robber's appearance. They recognize that this person is very similar to TAT. CHUNG remembers that he has seen TAT's picture in BING's file. The Macau police eventually confirms that TAT is the gang leader. They inform the Hong Kong Police to arrest TAT and sixty million stolen money was found.
