The Cedar Tree

The Cedar Tree was a television serial that ran from 1976-1979 on ITV in the United Kingdom. It involved the story of the Bourne family, hailing from an aristocratic background, before the turn of the Second World War. The Cedar Tree was an ATV Production and recorded at the ATV Centre, Birmingham. Two established cast members were the veteran actress Joyce Carey and Susan Skipper, who played one of the Bourne family's daughters. In February 2013 it was announced the first 1976 series was to be released on DVD.

Laura admits to Peter her real feelings about their wedding. Arthur is distracted again by Angela Scott. Jack reacts to the news that he is to be a father. Nanny has guessed Phyllis' secret. Rosemary learns from Peter and Laura that Arthur has been spotted around London with an attractive young woman.

Jack gossips about a rumor involving Geoffrey and Penelope Finch. Liz is forced to stand for the Woods family against the bailiff and Parry.

Arthur invites Angela to meet Rosemary at Layford, and a jealous Rosie reciprocates with a surprise guest of her own. A scheme to dissuade Hedges simmers at Larkfield, but with the men failing, one of the women works her clever powers on Hedges.

Smug estate agent Parry receives permission from Arthur to deal with disgruntled laborer Bryce, but doesn't give Arthur all of the details. Gates convinces Mrs. Gates to go drinking and dancing, and their joy ride culminates in a disaster, where Bryce is a bystander at the accident scene. Gates admits to Arthur that he was drinking before he and Mrs. Gates went for their drive. Bryce creates a scene with the Bournes in the churchyard. Liz demands that Arthur show Bryce the same concern as he does Gates. Parsons has an idea about clearing Gates. Arthur meets with Bryce and learns of his family tragedy.
